The first person to know that Zoe Beth would be coming into this world was a home pregnancy test kit, recently purchased from Eckerd’s Drug Store. This information was quickly relayed to the person holding the home pregnancy test kit. The news was then shared with the holder’s dog, Sugar, the only other family member in the vicinity. Later that evening, when the soon-to-be-father returned home from work and sat down to eat some dinner, this bit of information was then passed on to him. Upon hearing the news and allowing a moment for it to settle in…the newly-informed party let out a resounding and joyous “Hmmm,” before placing another bite of food into his mouth.

While the above story may not seem too out-of-the-ordinary for your typical baby-coming-soon story, it’s been quite a different tale since the baby was born. Mom and Dad learned that their new family member would be born on May 5th, 2004. Despite Mom and Dad telling virtually everyone they came into contact with the good news, they failed to mention this information to one key person in the whole ordeal - the baby. Thus, not knowing that the schedule said her arrival was planned for Cinco de Mayo, Zoe decided to make her grand entrance a good three months early on January 26th, 2004.
The first post in this blog begins a recreation of the emails that were sent out to family and friends to keep everyone up-to-date with the Zoe’s struggles and achievements during her five month stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
